Course Description

The College of Lake County embraces diversity because diversity is an integral part of who we are. It is part of the CLC experience, and we are committed to helping each member of the college community feel welcomed and valued. We create an encouraging environment where mutual respect and understanding work to create opportunity and reduce the impact of bias.

The DEI Foundations series serves as an important introduction to diversity at CLC and will define, deepen understanding of and provide real-world applications of: identity, power, unconscious bias, allyship, cultural appropriation, microaggressions, privilege and tokenism.  Strategies for allyship and combatting cultural appropriation, microaggressions, privilege and tokenism will also be shared.

Learner Outcomes

  1. All employees will be able to articulate their own identity and power in terms of identity mapping.

  1. All employees will articulate the definitions and impact of: allyship, cultural appropriation, microaggressions, privilege and tokenism.
