Course Description
Exploring a career in healthcare? Enjoy this four-day career test drive complete with hands-on lab experience alongside professional healthcare instructors in three areas: nursing, surgical technology and medical imaging, plus a healthcare career day. Learn effective strategies to help you reach your career goals. Look the part of a healthcare professional from day one with your own scrubs top and stethoscope.Monday: Medical Imaging. Learn what bones tell us about human identification. Investigate, evaluate and document the injury or cause of death by imaging phantoms in the laboratory.
Tuesday: Healthcare Career Day - Hear from CLC students now working in healthcare careers. Enjoy a practical Q & A and resources for helping you take next steps toward your career in healthcare. Special guests will include a clinical coordinator from Advocate Aurora Healthcare and live presentations from medical professionals.
Wednesday: Surgical Technology. Explore the surgical equipment and instrumentation a surgical technologist utilizes in supporting the surgical team. See how to set up the operating room for procedures, organize the necessary surgical and sterile supplies and equipment and maintain the quality, safety and efficiency of the sterile field throughout the surgery.
Thursday: Introduction to Nursing. Nursing Day will provide a snapshot of the nursing profession. Nursing faculty will provide a brief overview of CLC's nursing program. Engage in an introduction to nursing concepts and skills in the Simulation Technology Center and Nursing Lab. Experience nursing simulation scenarios and gain skills through hands-on learning. Other opportunities may include epinephrine pen training, naso-gastric tube placement, calculating intravenous fluids, hand hygiene and more.
