Course Description
Dreaming of a career in healthcare? Enjoy this four-day career test drive, complete with hands-on lab experience, alongside professional healthcare instructors in four areas: nursing, career day, medical assisting and phlebotomy. Learn about healthcare careers and discover effective strategies to help you reach your career goals. Look the part of a healthcare professional from day one with your own scrubs top and stethoscope.
Monday: Introduction to Nursing. Nursing Day will provide a snapshot of the nursing profession. Nursing faculty will provide a brief overview of CLC's nursing program. Engage in an introduction to nursing concepts and skills in the Nurse Assisting Lab. Experience nursing simulation scenarios and gain skills through hands-on learning. Other opportunities may include epinephrine pen training, naso-gastric tube placement, calculating intravenous fluids, hand hygiene and more.
Tuesday: Healthcare Career Day. Enjoy a practical Q & A and resources for helping you take next steps toward your career in healthcare. Special guests will include a clinical coordinator from Advocate Aurora Healthcare, and live presentations from local and international professional healthcare workers.
Wednesday: Medical Assisting. Discover how medical assistants support doctors, patients and other healthcare professionals.
Thursday: Phlebotomy and Healthcare Topics Day. See how this field is critical to the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Learn the secrets to finding a good vein.
