Course Description

Engage your mind and voice in this Fast-Paced Verbal class! Using famous speeches monologues and comedy skits develop a framework from which to examine the elements of speaking reading writing and listening and discover how these elements interact to communicate a message to an audience. Using research skills and your own creativity carefully construct a written piece and practice public speaking techniques as you present your creation. Gain practice in listening carefully and offering thoughtful feedback. Build on creative writing skills with powerful effective vocabulary. Learn vocal and oral techniques for effective communication in high school and the academic world beyond.

Notes:
This course is offered only for sixth, seventh and eighth grade students who have qualified for the Fast-Paced Gifted Program.

Students: Bring paper a pen or pencil to take notes and a highlighter. Bring your own device (tablet Chromebook or laptop) with Wi-Fi capabilities and Word or Doc writing app or program. When not being used specifically for class-related activities all devices must be silenced turned off and put away. (See Code of Conduct).
