- [Course 0007: FPL: Best Practices for Teaching Online](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1024984): FACULTY CONTACT HOUR(S): 5 Best Practices for Teaching Online is developed for faculty seeking to obtain a foundation in online teaching practices that directly improve course design and enhance the student experience. The course and supporting rubric are simple enough (they fit on a single page) for new online faculty to implement, yet robust enough to encourage continuous improvement for seasoned online educators. Upon completion of the 4-6 hour competency-based course, faculty will receive a digital credential, as well as formal recognition from NISOD (for member institutions) at the annual International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence. - [Course CCRF 23: Glassblown Planets](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1047922): Create planets to add to your unique collection! This hands-on class is intended for beginners with little or no hot shop experience Pieces need to cool so you will be able to pick them up in three days. Gain an appreciation for working with Hot Glass. Proper attire is mandatory: long-sleeved cotton shirt, long pants, socks, close-toed shoes, a pair of sunglasses. Course fee covers all materials. Class time may vary depending on the number of students. Parents of students age 14-17 must sign a waiver with Patterson Glassworks. - [Course CFSP 45: Math for Chemistry Success (Grades 7-8)](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048102): Get a head start on high school chemistry with an introduction to the basics, such as types of matter and the periodic chart. Build confidence and competency in the essential mathematics skills necessary to thrive in a high school honors and college prep chemistry course. The main focus will be on basic math concepts used in chemistry: rounding, rules, scientific notation, significant figures, factor label method (dimensional analysis), percent calculations (finding % difference, % error and % change) and graphing basics. We will also learn about density and Gas Laws formulas, the periodic table, moles, molar mass and Avogadro's Number. Each week you will explore various writing skills and techniques related to setting, plot, characters, theme, conflict, point of view, mood, tone and more as you work to create and polish your own original pieces. Gain experience with editing and revising, learning to give and receive helpful feedback and using digital tools and apps which will help with polishing rough drafts. - [Course CFSP 88: Beginner Sewing (Grades 6-8)](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048132): Enjoy beginning sewing lessons starting with the basics of learning your sewing machine to construct a completed garment. Employ STEAM skills as you learn basic machine use and maintenance including proper thread and needle usage how to choose a pattern how to read a pattern and how to choose the proper fabric. Discover how to measure lay out a pattern cut fabric and construct a garment. Set aside your fear of sewing learn a lifelong skill and see just how easy and creative sewing can be. - [Course CFSP 89: Fun with Geometry and Beginning Statistics (Grades 6-8)](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048137): Visually discover the formulas for 2-D and 3-D objects. Discover the perimeter and area of pentomino puzzles and tangrams. Find the area of regular polygons using the apothem and perimeter. Use Pick’s Theorem to find the area of irregular polygons. Explore the volume of various prisms. Construct a 3-D origami transforming circle and jumping origami frog. - [Course CMSC 2: CLC Singers](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048147): This student-based ensemble engages in the enjoyment, study, preparation and performance of diverse choral music, including madrigals, ballads and popular modern idioms. Emphasis is given to techniques of correct singing. No audition is required. First-time CLC Singers will receive information early in the semester regarding the purchase of concert attire. Requirements: attendance of two concerts per semester, no more than two class absences in order to perform in the concert. If college credit is desired, enroll in MUS 120-001. - [Course CMSC 3: Choir of Lake County](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048152): Comprised of members of the community and students, this choir seeks to serve the artistic needs of the community. Its singers participate in the enjoyment, preparation and performance of traditional choral literature, from early Renaissance to present day. There will be performance opportunities both on and off campus. Performances scheduled on the campus at CLC are required of all Choir members. Students will receive information early in the semester regarding the purchase of concert attire as well as dates of Performances. Non-credit students are required to attend all rehearsals in order to perform. Exceptions will be granted at the discretion of the Conductor. - [Course PALH 8: CPR Basic: BLS Healthcare Provider](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048272): This basic course is for healthcare providers who have never had an AHA BLS Healthcare Provider card, or for healthcare providers with an expired card. The BLS Healthcare Provider course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. The course is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed healthcare professionals. - [Course PCJI 10: Police Evidence Technician Basic](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048282): Law enforcement officers will develop CSI skills which will give them the knowledge and practical experience to do every forensic and evidence technician investigation in a professional manner. Topics include photography of crime scene and evidence, diagrams and field sketches, crime scene processing, trace evidence, bloodstain evidence, crime scene management and fingerprint processing. Special emphasis will be given in: burglary, theft, fire and arson investigations, death and sexual assault investigations, impression evidence, macro photographic techniques, tool and bite marks, firearms and report writing. Students must bring departmental camera, tripod and flash. This course is certified and reimbursable through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board for Illinois officers. The Evidence Technician class is designed for law enforcement professionals; however, we have opened seats to college students in forensic science studies, high school forensic science teachers and insurance or fire investigators. - [Course PCTR 91: Google IT Support Professional Certificate](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048322): IT Support is one of the fastest-growing career fields in the United States. This program prepares learners for entry-level IT support jobs. No previous computer experience is required—only a willingness to learn.  This course is part of a Google initiative based on the training used to prepare its own IT support staff. The certificate program includes online courses in technical support fundamentals, computer networking, operating systems, system administration, IT infrastructure, and IT security.  Students learn through lectures, quizzes, and hands-on lab activities that provide practical experience.

- [Course PPSP 8: Reading 3](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048362): This class is for students who have a minimum of a 6th grade reading level and want to be more successful in reading and spelling at work and in daily life. Using the SLANT System for Structured Language Training, this class will focus on advanced vowel teams, r-controlled syllables and diphthong syllables. - [Course PRLE 3: Broker Pre-Licensing Applied Principles](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048387): VIRTUAL LIVE CLASSROOM This 15-hour course, with the Broker Pre-Licensing Topics course (PRLE 2), fulfills the new education requirements for obtaining an Illinois Real Estate Broker license. This interactive course includes role play situations, case studies and demonstration examples. You are required to attend all sessions, which include: listing presentations, buyer representations, agency disclosures, purchase agreements, handling offers, negotiating, market analysis, closing costs, escrow money, fair housing and anti-trust. - [Course PSFT 30: Forklift Operator Training](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048407): Forklift Operator training provides participants with knowledge and skills to operate a powered industrial truck (forklift) in a safe and professional manner. This training on a sit down forklift is OSHA compliant and is taught by an OSHA recognized trainer. Training combines formal classroom instruction, practical hands-on training and evaluation of workplace performance. Training is held at Equipment Depot, 1014 Progress Drive in Grayslake. - [Course PVET 1: Veterinary Assistant Training](https://learn.clcillinois.edu/search/publicCourseSearchDetails.do?method=load&courseId=1048422): If you have a nurturing spirit and a desire to help animals, consider a career in the veterinary field! This course trains students to assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians in providing medical care to companion animals. Students training as veterinary assistants will also learn front office procedures as well as how to assist in examinations, hospital procedures, surgical preparation, and laboratory tests, medical terminology, pharmacology, diagnostic imaging and client relations. This course includes 75 hours of asynchronous work in addition to classroom learning, and a 100-hour clinical externship experience. Please note that the clinical externship will most likely take place during normal business hours and successful completion of the externship is required to complete the course. Externship dates will be given in the first month of class to ensure ample time to inform current employers of your training, if needed, as time off from work may be required depending on your schedule. Students must complete a background check at an approved provider in order to participate in the clinical externship portion of the program. Students will also be required to provide proof of current health insurance. Prior felony convictions may prevent participation in the program. The fee for this service is NOT included in the course fee. Course Prerequisites and Special Notes: A high school diploma or GED is required. In addition, students must have the following minimum abilities: psychomotor skills (eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity), visual acuity (normal or corrected), and the ability to lift 30 pounds in the clinical setting. Students may be required to meet specific health requirements and drug testing prior to placement in the clinical portion of the course. For Disney fans the evening will kick off with Steamboat Willie the first Mickey Mouse cartoon. Later sound was added to make this the first animated cartoon to use synchronized sound. After the feature cartoon you will enter the "magic of the silent cinema" complete with live theatre organ accompaniment. Enjoy Buster Keaton "The Great Stoneface" in the stunt-filled silent film classic "Steamboat Bill Jr." William Canfield better known as "Steamboat Bill" (played by Ernest Torrence) is the owner of the old worn riverboat Stonewall Jackson. His business is threatened by a new steamer called The King owned by wealthy businessman John James King (Tom McGuire). Desperate for help Bill calls his son Willie (Keaton) home from college only to find that school has turned him into a ukulele-toting arts-loving bookworm. To make matters worse he falls in love with King's daughter Kitty (Marion Byron). Father and son can only watch helplessly as King convinces authorities to have the Stonewall Jackson condemned. But when a hurricane hits the town Willie sees a way to save his father's steamer win Kitty's heart and prove himself a real man all in one clear-cut swoop provided he doesn't get blown away first! While the Lancer Care Team reviews these cases, there are two sections of this team working in cohesion for the benefit of the student and the safety of the college. One provides reach out, resources, and support. The other assess for the potential for violence. This workshop will focus on threat assessment and the student conduct process. When it comes to safety, the college should be aware of the steps taken in determining when a student's behavior goes from angry or belligerent, to potentially dangerous.
